The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Falah Hassan Sherri, attended the signing of a memorandum of cooperation with Schlumberger Middle East S. A, memorandum of joint scientific cooperation in several fields, which will develop education, training and expertise of both parties to benefit the university's students, graduates, Basra community, as well as the oil and gas industry, where the agreement was signed by the President of the University, Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, with the General Manager of Schlumberger Iraq, Mr. Wassim Azem. 
The two sides agreed to cooperate to enrich and contribute additions in the field of engineering, in particular in petroleum engineering, chemical engineering and other scientific disciplines, as well as to identify and evaluate possible opportunities for scientific and technical projects at the university in which Schlumberger can provide advice and support. 
The two parties emphasized the use of the university's means and capabilities, including training centers and headquarters, to support Schlumberger employees and develop their skills, as well as conducting joint studies related to the impact of oil and gas industry operations on the public health of local communities. 
The General Manager of Schlumberger Iraq, Mr. Wassim Azem, expressed his pleasure with the signing of the memorandum of cooperation between the company and the University of Basrah, and stressed that each of them has a rich, long and vibrant history, as the name of Schlumberger has been closely and distinctively linked to the Iraqi oil industry since 1938.
